Amanda Brugel

(February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on that part of the island of Montreal called"the West Island. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing for those who aren't familiar to its significance. It is often believed that it is an island to the west of Montreal however it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the two cities of Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel's birthplace is frequently cited, however her short stay was not. Brugel grew-up in Courtice near Oshawa, Ontario. In her early years she wanted to be professional performer, however an unexpected expansion of her body made it impossible. An article in the Toronto Star article revealed she's six feet tall, with heels. When I surpassed any male partner and stopped dancing, I quit. A lot of former dancers go on to act. In Brugel's case, it was the encouragement by her drama instructor in high school who pushed her to the path she needed. The teacher was the one who encouraged her to try out to play the character of Anne in their annual school production. She auditioned and was cast as Anne of Green Gables. The show was granted an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to take part in York University's Theater Program which she completed from the program in 2000, earning a Bachelor's of Fine Arts. For the last twenty years, Brugel's work been seen on both the small and big screen. The most notable was her attention when she won her part as Rita in the award-winning television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor for the season 1 of the show and was only appeared on occasion.
